First Sport Fest at Žatika, then a triathlon at Zelena Resort: Poreč brings together two different events. The arena is free to visit, the Ironman is already sold out – and Thursday is not yet a full exhibition day.
Two venues, two kinds of sporting day
Istria’s official events calendar lists Sport Fest Poreč from Thursday to Saturday, 15–17 October, at the Žatika sports centre. On Sunday, 18 October, the Plava Laguna IRONMAN 70.3 follows, starting and finishing at Zelena Resort. These are separate events, not one continuous programme in the same hall.
This distinction matters to visitors even when planning their arrival. An appointment at Žatika is different from a meeting point on the triathlon course. Anyone wanting to see both should plan two outings and check the appropriate venue for each.
It starts on Thursday; the arena follows on Friday
The organiser’s website lists accreditation and a party at Hotel Sunny by Valamar on Thursday from 20:00 to 22:00. On Friday, the conference and sports arena are announced from 10:00 to 18:00, and on Saturday the arena from 09:00 to 18:00. The date range beginning on Thursday therefore does not mean the hall already offers a full visitor programme that morning.
The arena includes participation activities, demonstrations, a children’s programme and inclusive games. The organiser describes this area in the large Žatika hall as free. The conference, however, has separate registration; free arena admission does not mean free access to every programme item. For last-minute visitors, Ironman is about watching
Plava Laguna explicitly describes the 2026 edition as sold out. The planned distances are 1.9 kilometres of swimming, 90 kilometres of cycling and 21.1 kilometres of running. This is an endurance competition with its own organisation and registration, not a spontaneous participation race on Sunday morning.
For companions and spectators, Zelena Resort is the first point of orientation. Keep transition areas, barriers and access routes clear. A visible entrance to the resort does not mean you may enter or drive to every part of the competition area.
Final planning depends on the current programme
Specific road closures and spectator access for 2026 are not fully described on the event pages examined here. We therefore give no closure times taken from previous years’ documents. Before travelling, check current information from IRONMAN, the city and your accommodation, and allow enough time to reach your chosen viewing point.
For families, a visit to the arena on Friday or Saturday can be an afternoon outing in its own right. Those coming to the triathlon should agree on a meeting point, food and the return journey before the group splits up. That makes the sporting weekend a manageable visit – even without a race number.
