The joint utility has revised its fixed and consumption-based charges. For one example household on Brač using ten cubic metres, net water and wastewater costs rise by around 45 per cent—but not every bill follows the same percentage.
The joint price list has applied since 1 August
Vodovod i odvodnja Brača i Hvara officially published the new decision on 31 July 2026. Under its stated deadline, it took effect on the first day of the following month and applies no later than the end of 2029.
It covers Supetar, Bol, Milna, Nerežišća, Postira, Pučišća, Selca and Sutivan on Brač, as well as Hvar, Stari Grad, Jelsa and Sućuraj on Hvar. Prices for Vis and Komiža are to be regulated later.
A water bill consists of several components
For households with a small connection, the fixed water charge is €4.50 net per month. Each cubic metre consumed adds €1.07 for water supply. Where wastewater is collected, an additional fixed charge of €1.95 and €0.80 per cubic metre apply.
For treatment, the decision lists a further fixed charge of €0.56 and a variable charge of €0.33 per cubic metre. VAT and statutory water fees are added depending on the billing item. An actual bill is therefore higher than a simple total of the net service prices.
The often-quoted 40 per cent is not a tariff item
The individual components rise at different rates. In the former Brač tariff zone, the fixed water charge for a small connection increases from €2.34 to €4.50, or around 92 per cent. The variable water price rises from €0.81 to €1.07 per cubic metre, about 32 per cent.
The fixed wastewater charge changes from €1.51 to €1.95 and the variable charge from €0.54 to €0.80. The final percentage increase therefore depends on consumption, connection size, wastewater collection and treatment services, and the previous tariff zone.
An example using ten cubic metres gives around 45 per cent
For a Brač household with a small connection, monthly consumption of ten cubic metres, and both water and wastewater services, the compared net items total €25.15 instead of the previous €17.35. That is an increase of around 45 per cent.
A household receiving only water would pay €15.20 rather than €10.44 in the same simplified calculation, around 45.6 per cent more. Both examples deliberately exclude VAT, statutory charges and any treatment service; they are comparisons, not sample bills for every household.
Hvar cannot simply be compared with the former Brač tariff
The new decision standardises prices across a service area that covers several islands and previously had different starting points. A percentage comparison is sound only when the old and new service, customer group and tariff zone are identical.
For owners on Hvar, the new price list is clear, but the change from an individual previous bill cannot be equated with the Brač example. The old items on the customer’s own bill and the services actually connected remain decisive.
Business customers and social tariffs follow separate rules
For business customers, the variable water charge is €1.33 per cubic metre. Fixed charges also depend on connection size. Holiday rentals, restaurants and other commercial uses must therefore not be calculated as a small private household connection.
Socially vulnerable users pay 60 per cent of the respective fixed and variable charges for the recognised basic quantity. Whether a customer qualifies and what quantity is covered are determined through the utility’s competent procedure, not by Golden Beach.
How to check your next bill
Compare the meter-reading period and reading, connection size, customer group, and the water, wastewater and treatment items separately. A higher total can result from new prices, greater consumption or services billed for the first time; the bill alone does not automatically identify the cause.
If something differs, a written query that includes the customer number, meter reading and specific item is more useful than a broad percentage claim. The published price table provides the reference, but does not replace a check of the individual connection.
