Zadar is funding work on the clinic on Iž, planning for Molat and boat journeys for medical teams. The total is €79,108.25. Reliable care depends on buildings, staff and transport working together.

01

Two clinics are at different stages

On 9 October, the City of Zadar approved funding for medical infrastructure on its islands. New windows and doors and work on the rooms are planned for Iž. Procurement is being handled by the county's Dom zdravlja health centre; the city will cover the costs. Its target is the end of this month.

On Molat, the first step is to plan the reconstruction. Documentation for the city-owned building is due to be completed by 15 December. That date does not mark the reopening of an already fully refurbished clinic.

02

Reaching the consulting room also means crossing the sea

The additional funding for transporting doctors continues an existing partnership. The routes listed are weekly journeys on Soline–Ist–Molat–Soline and Silba–Premuda–Silba, plus two journeys a week on Silba–Olib–Silba. These transport medical teams; they are not a new ferry service that the public can book.

Adding the three approved amounts gives €79,108.25. To assess the benefit to an individual island, the purposes need to be considered separately: one part improves premises, another prepares for later building work, and another enables the regular journey to provide consultations.

Completing building work does not establish consultation hours

What ultimately matters to residents is when treatment is actually accessible. Repairing a window does not resolve staffing schedules; conversely, even an available medical team needs suitable premises. The decisions address important prerequisites for care, but do not provide new individual treatment appointments.

Anyone planning a longer island stay should therefore ask the relevant practice about access and appointments. For a scheduled check-up, having the right contact is more important than the size of the building grant. The announced frequency of transport does not tell you what time a particular practice opens.

What can be checked next

At the end of October, it will be possible to ask whether the work on Iž has actually been completed. In mid-December, the next question will be whether Molat's planning documents are ready and what further steps follow. Each milestone deserves its own check; a target date does not automatically become a completion announcement.

Our earlier articles about the island doctor on Iž and life in Molat's three villages provide local context. This news adds specific municipal spending, without presenting a funding decision as a comprehensive solution to island healthcare.
