The plant near Solin is intended to make the greater Split area’s water supply more reliable, especially during heavy rainfall. An announced site visit is not an opening, however: the project also includes an extended trial operation period.

The construction site behind the water supply

A drinking water treatment plant is being built on the Jadro near Solin. It is intended to make the greater Split area’s water supply more reliable, particularly during heavy rainfall and the associated cloudiness of the spring water. The project therefore addresses an everyday infrastructure issue for residents, businesses and visitors alike.

According to Morski’s announcement published on 12 October, a construction site visit in Majdan is scheduled for Tuesday, 13 October, at 11 o’clock. The mayors of Split and Solin and the water utility’s director are named. This does not imply either a public visitor tour or the plant entering operation.

02

The building permit and trial operation are separate stages

The utility Vodovod i kanalizacija Split announced the building permit on 10 December 2025. Its statement at the time named January 2026 as the planned start of construction. Under the contractor’s schedule published there, construction was due to finish in April 2027, followed by a twelve-month trial operation period until April 2028 and handover in May 2028.

These are planned dates from the permit announcement, not completion dates now confirmed. The year-long trial period in particular illustrates the difference between a finished building and a water supply system that has been handed over. An updated schedule cannot be inferred from the invitation to visit the construction site.

What this means for the tap today

This concerns treating water for consumption, not cleaning wastewater before discharge. The construction is neither a blanket warning about today’s tap water nor an all-clear for every future weather situation.

For a specific water quality notice, the location, date and utility’s current instructions matter. For your own accommodation, check ViK Split’s ongoing notices. News of a future plant does not replace that day-to-day information.
