On Friday morning, HAK lists only the Novalja–Rab–Rijeka catamaran route as suspended. The previously reported second route suspension and the A7 wind restriction no longer appear in the latest update.
Thursday’s Orange warning has ended
An Orange warning for severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall applied to the Rijeka/Kvarner warning region on Wednesday, 9 September, and Thursday, 10 September. That warning window ended at midnight; the former warning is not carried forward here as a current Orange warning for Friday.
Specific transport effects may persist. The latest notices from HAK, DHMZ and operators are therefore decisive now—not the colour of an expired warning map.
More than 100 litres was a possible local peak
DHMZ forecast locally more than 100 millimetres of precipitation for Thursday. One millimetre equals one litre per square metre. The figure described a possible local daily total and was neither an area-wide value nor rainfall already measured.
The forecast alone therefore provides no retrospective rainfall total for all of Istria or the entire Kvarner. Measurements and local damage reports would be needed for that; this article distinguishes the expired warning from transport effects that remain officially reported.
One Kvarner catamaran route remains suspended
HAK’s maritime traffic update of 11 September at 8:52 am lists only the Novalja–Rab–Rijeka catamaran route as suspended. The notice gives no time for services to resume.
The Mali Lošinj–Ilovik–Susak–Unije–Martinšćica–Cres–Rijeka connection, which was also listed early in the morning, no longer appears among the suspended services. This is a current status change, but not a guarantee for every later departure; the next HAK or operator notice is what counts.
The early L433 sailing applied on 10 September
On ferry route L433 Zadar/Gaženica–Rivanj–Sestrunj–Zverinac–Molat–Ist, the return sailing was brought forward because of the weather on 10 September. It began from Molat at 4 pm instead of 6:15 pm and was due to reach Zadar/Gaženica at 7 pm.
That single early sailing has finished. It must be distinguished from the temporarily amended L433 timetable that HAK continues to list until 23 September; times for a new journey therefore need to be checked directly with the operator.
DHMZ continues to warn of thunderstorms and strong gusts
DHMZ’s Adriatic forecast issued at 6 am on 11 September warns of local thunderstorms. Jugo gusts of 35 to 40 knots are possible in the southern and parts of the central Adriatic; bora and north-westerly gusts of 35 to 45 knots are forecast in the northern and central Adriatic. Beneath Velebit, the bora may reach 55 knots in the evening.
For skippers, kayaks, SUPs and small open boats, this marine warning matters in addition to the general warning map. A large ferry operating normally does not prove that a private trip is safe. Conversely, the forecast must not be used to invent the cancellation of a specific route.
The earlier A7 wind restriction has ended
The wind restriction reported on Thursday evening for vehicle group I on the A7 between Rijeka istok and Šmrika no longer appears in HAK’s Friday road report at 8:33 am. It is therefore not presented as a continuing restriction.
HAK continues to give a general warning about wet and slippery roads in places. New accidents or roadworks are separate traffic situations and must not be attributed to the weather without an official notice.
Camping and excursions need a flexible plan
Keep awnings, light furniture, SUPs and other loose objects secured while strong winds continue. Vehicles are better kept away from low-lying areas and problematic branches. Coastal walks and mountain tours need an early turn-back option in changeable conditions.
During thunderstorms, people should leave the water and exposed viewpoints. Do not drive through underpasses or visibly flooded roads. Anyone departing on Friday should allow extra time and check immediately before setting off whether the route and connection are actually open.
Three sources answer three different questions
DHMZ provides warning levels, time windows, radar and marine forecasts. HAK reports actual conditions on roads and in general ferry traffic. The shipping company or local operator confirms whether the exact booked departure will run. None of these sources replaces the other two.
In an immediate emergency, call 112. A location-based SRUUK mobile alert contains safety instructions and should be taken seriously. For travel planning, however, the latest update immediately before departure is decisive because thunderstorms and their effects on traffic can change at short notice.
What is confirmed – and what remains open
Confirmed facts are Thursday’s expired Orange warning, the current marine wind warning and one catamaran route that remains suspended in HAK’s latest maritime update. The second route suspension and the A7 restriction no longer appear in the newer update; the early L433 sailing was a change applying only on 10 September.
