Six young men are suspected of attacking a Serbian-registered car in Lapad while masked. Two occupants suffered minor injuries; police are investigating several offences with an alleged hate motive based on nationality.
What police have now confirmed
After completing a further stage of the investigation, the Dubrovnik-Neretva Police Department has accused six men aged between 20 and 27. They are suspected of attacking a Serbian-registered vehicle in Dubrovnik’s Lapad district shortly before 2 am on 22 August.
According to police, the attackers were masked and carrying telescopic batons. Two 30-year-old Serbian nationals suffered minor injuries, while two other occupants were unhurt. The vehicle was damaged.
Why nationality matters legally
Police are investigating violent conduct, bodily harm and criminal damage. In relation to the damage, they are examining an alleged hate motive based on the victims’ national origin.
This classification comes from the investigating authority. It carries more weight than speculation about political motives, for which the published statement provides no evidence.
Remand custody is not a verdict
All six suspects were brought before the competent pre-trial judge, who ordered that they be held in custody. This confirms a procedural safeguard, not a final finding of guilt.

Not a measure of an entire city
A serious attack allegedly motivated by nationality must be described clearly. At the same time, it does not justify a blanket claim that Dubrovnik is fundamentally unsafe for particular groups of visitors.
