The central register brings together information from existing official records. You can check your own details and report errors via e-Građani or the tax administration. The current call is not a new obligation for every holidaymaker.
A new view of details already on record
An incorrect address or household relationship sometimes only comes to light when someone applies for a benefit. Croatia’s central register platform is intended to let people check their own details earlier. The official call circulated again in October concerns a service that, according to HZZO, has been available in e-Građani since 1 June 2026.
The Središnji registar stanovništva, or SRS, does not simply collect all the information afresh. It links data from existing official sources. For individuals, this means that a single view can reveal discrepancies between their actual circumstances and administrative records. It does not, however, resolve those discrepancies automatically.
Registered foreign residents may also be included
Article 9 of the register law covers Croatian citizens with a registered place of permanent or temporary residence in the country, as well as foreigners registered accordingly. It also includes information on Croatian citizens abroad. As a general prerequisite, a personal identification number, OIB, must have been assigned.
The call is therefore neither relevant exclusively to Croatian citizens nor an additional check-in requirement for all holiday visitors. A holiday home, a holiday and registered residence are different things. To find out what information is held about you, use the designated personal information service rather than inferring your status from a general news report.
How to access your own information
HZZO points to the service in the e-Građani category “Aktivno građanstvo”. Access requires a NIAS login credential at the substantial or high assurance level. If you do not use e-Građani, you can contact the relevant Porezna uprava office.
A useful first check is manageable: compare your identity and address details, review the household information, note obvious errors and use the prescribed correction procedure. Enter login credentials only in the genuine login portal. A message asking you to send passwords or complete documents to an unknown sender is no substitute for this official channel.
Voluntary information remains a separate category
The law distinguishes imported official data from voluntary declarations, for example about religion, mother tongue, nationality and contact details, as well as certain partnership arrangements. “Check your details” does not mean you have to complete every voluntary field. The law sets out separate rules for later changes to partnership information already declared.
For errors in imported details, the authority holding the source record is crucial. The law provides for corrections by importing data from that original record. A reported error may initially be marked as under review. It therefore makes sense to check progress again later rather than treating submission of a report as completion of the necessary correction.
A check, not an automatic benefit application
According to the official information, register data are also intended to be used from 2027 to establish certain entitlements. This means neither that every benefit will be granted automatically nor that all existing application procedures have already been abolished. The relevant eligibility conditions still apply.
HZZO expressly describes checking as a recommendation, not a general obligation for every citizen to take action now. Anyone who has moved or experienced a household change may nevertheless find it a useful opportunity. The aim is an accurate record – not to provide as much additional personal information as possible.
