The organiser sets maximum prices and minimum portions for selected mandatory products. A star on the price list is intended to identify them. This is not a price cap for the entire menu.
Not everything costs five euros or less
Pula Film Festival is inviting applications to rent food and drink huts for Advent from 29 November 2026 to 6 January 2027. A new requirement is a mandatory basic offering with capped prices. The call does not, however, regulate every dish: operators select a specified number of products from a set list, depending on their hut category.
For visitors, the distinction matters in practice. A more expensive speciality does not in itself prove a breach. Conversely, a hut does not meet the requirements merely because a low price appears somewhere on a board. What matters is the selected mandatory products, their portions and their availability during the stipulated opening hours.
Three hut categories, one identifiable basic offering
Category A must offer one savoury dish and two drinks as its price-capped selection. Category B offers one sweet dish and two drinks. Category C combines one savoury dish, one sweet dish and two drinks. The relevant products must be marked with a star and an explanation on the price list.
This does not mean that every hut must serve hotdogs, hamburgers and bakalar. Nor is every listed drink automatically mandatory at every hut. Anyone specifically seeking the cheaper options should therefore look for the marking first and ask before ordering if anything is unclear.
Price and portion size belong together
The selection includes a hotdog or hamburger for no more than five euros, with at least 80 grams of sausage or meat respectively. Bakalar must include at least 100 grams of the finished dish plus bread. Mulled wine, hot chocolate or cocoa: at least 0.20 litres for no more than three euros. Tea in the same quantity and water of at least 0.50 litres: no more than two euros.
Christmas biscuits of at least 100 grams, and fritule or filled pancakes of at least 120 grams, cost no more than three euros when selected as mandatory products. Compulsory packaging or service charges must not circumvent the price cap; voluntarily chosen extras may be charged separately.
The weight requirement for a hamburger therefore concerns its meat content, not the total weight including the bun. For a pancake, by contrast, it concerns the finished filled product. Such small differences are essential to a meaningful comparison. Placing prices side by side without considering portions would miss the point of the rule.
A modest budget can be calculated, but not guaranteed
As a purely illustrative calculation, a selected five-euro savoury dish and a selected three-euro drink together cost no more than eight euros. Adding a corresponding three-euro sweet dish would make eleven. This is neither an announced meal deal nor a promise that this combination can be found at every individual hut.
The benefit is a predictable basic option. Anyone wanting extra sauces, larger portions or other specialities must check their advertised prices separately. A cap on a particular product also says nothing about the cost of the whole day trip: travel, accommodation and other activities need their own budget.
On site, a simple sequence helps: read the marked products, specify the option you want and clarify the total price before paying. If there is a discrepancy, document the specific price list together with the receipt and ask the organiser. This article does not adjudicate individual disputes.
The Arena becomes central, while Advent elsewhere in town continues
The organiser describes the Arena, its forecourt and Titov park as the new central zone. Further offerings are announced at the market hall, the Forum and the Kaštel. The price rules described here come from the specific call for hut rentals; they are not a blanket promise for every restaurant or event in Pula.
For travel planning, it also matters that setup and dismantling are not confined precisely to the Advent dates. The organiser’s information gives 19 November to 12 January for the planned temporary traffic arrangements. Actual access and the programme should therefore be checked again shortly before visiting, rather than deriving fixed opening hours for individual attractions from an autumn announcement.
Pula’s approach is interesting because it expressly builds affordable options into the rental process. Whether they are easy to find and reliably available in practice will only become clear during Advent. Until then, we can already explain precisely what visitors should look for—without turning the basic offering into an unrealistic promise of a cheap entire evening.
