For nine evenings, Rovinj is carrying out wildlife-management measures near populated areas. The seven named zones should be avoided from 9 pm to midnight; the warning does not apply to the entire city.
The warning starts on Monday evening
Wildlife-protection programme measures are scheduled every day from 9 pm to midnight, from Monday, 7 September, through Tuesday, 15 September inclusive. The city asks people not to enter the affected areas during those hours.
There is no general access ban outside that time window. Wildlife can also appear during the day, but the specific safety request concerns the announced evening measures.
Rovinj names these seven zones
The listed areas are Villas Rubin, Polari, Gripole, Monfiorenzo, Štanjera, Madonna del Campo and Kokuletovica. The Italian version also uses the local paired names Stagnera/Štanjera and Cocaletto/Kokuletovica.
The list covers tourist resorts and city outskirts, not the old town or the entire city area. Guests should check the precise location of their accommodation or route before an evening walk.
The measures involve driving away or culling wildlife
The city describes the measures as driving away or culling wildlife under its wildlife-protection programme. The method used may depend on the situation.
Walkers, runners, cyclists and dog owners should therefore not try to observe the operation. Keeping away improves safety for people, animals and those carrying out the work.
Proximity to homes makes the situation sensitive
Wild boar and other wildlife use food sources, cover and quiet routes at settlement edges around dusk. Encounters become more problematic when an animal is surprised, cornered or chased by an off-leash dog.
Even so, a multi-day operation does not prove a general wild-boar invasion. It is a preventive or population-management measure limited in place and time.
Wildlife sightings can be reported
Rovinj provides the number 052/805-266 for wildlife near residential areas. From a safe distance, it is useful to give the exact location, time, species and direction of travel.
Do not feed or surround an animal, and do not approach it for a photograph. Call 112 if people are in immediate danger.
Change your evening route with dogs and children
During the nine days, choose another, busier route outside the seven zones between 9 pm and midnight. Keep dogs on a lead and do not let children run ahead on dark paths at the edge of town.
Navigation apps often do not know about temporary measures. City notices, barriers and instructions on site are authoritative.
The announced period ends on 16 September
According to the notice, the programme runs through 15 September inclusive. No extension has been announced, although only a newer official notice can rule one out.
The practical point for guests is that this is not an alert for all of Rovinj, but a limited evening warning for seven clearly named areas. That distinction should be retained whenever the information is shared.
