By the end of September, overnight stays exceeded one million for the first time when accommodation and nautical tourism are combined. Almost all the growth came from the boating segment. This is not a million hotel nights.

01

Which million is meant

Trogir's tourism organisation reports a total of 214,015 arrivals and 1,047,363 overnight stays for January to September 2026. Commercial accommodation and the nautical segment are counted together. According to its report of 13 October, this combined total passes the million mark for the first time. Nights increased by 11.58 per cent compared with the same period a year earlier.

The scope is part of the story. Anyone thinking only of hotel and apartment stays would otherwise read the same number as something different. An overall total can grow even while individual components remain almost at the previous year's level.

02

The growth is on the water

Nautical tourism accounts for 444,419 nights, an increase of 31.66 per cent. Commercial accommodation reaches 602,944 nights, growing by 0.30 per cent. Of a total of 108,701 additional nights, 106,878 come from the nautical segment. Mathematically, that is about 98 per cent of the increase.

This calculation describes the contribution to additional volume, not nautical tourism's share of all tourism. Confusing these two percentages would badly distort the result. Nor does the statistic prove that guests switched from hotels to boats: that would require knowing individual travel decisions.

03

Nautical nights dominate in September

In September alone, 91,878 nautical nights compare with 75,852 nights in commercial accommodation. Together they total 167,730. According to the tourism organisation, Marina Trogir and Trogir-Riva account for approximately three quarters of nautical tourism traffic in September.

This shows why looking only at conventional accommodation captures only part of the late season. It does not mean that every boat was fully occupied every day or that every guest spent the same amount in town. Arrivals, overnight stays, berths and revenue are different measures.

04

Strong figures, not proof of a rescued season

Saying that “nautical tourism saved the season” assumes that we know what would have happened without it and which businesses benefited financially. The published report does not provide a complete counterfactual calculation. It demonstrates a strongly growing segment and its substantial contribution to the overall total.

This does not yield a blanket price or availability forecast for your next trip. Anyone planning a sailing holiday should check the specific charter week and berth; anyone staying ashore should check the actual accommodation. The useful lesson from the million is simpler: establish which categories were counted before assessing the headline number.
