The fire spread between moored boats
The Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre MRCC Rijeka was informed at 1:16 pm on 10 September that several boats were on fire in Uvala Scott near Kraljevica. The report came through the Rijeka County 112 centre.
The Rijeka professional fire brigade was already responding. Croatia’s maritime ministry says the fire spread between boats moored at the berth before crews brought it under control and fully extinguished it.
Seven boats were affected and three sank completely
The official report lists seven boats affected by the fire. Three sank completely. It gives no further details about boat types, owners or a reliable damage estimate.
The numbers of damaged and sunken boats are therefore confirmed, but they do not support an estimate of the total financial loss or show which wrecks have already been recovered.
No one was injured
The official incident report records no deaths or injuries. That is the most important fact, even though the material damage and work on the water may remain substantial.

The tug Titan was placed on standby
The Rijeka Harbourmaster’s Office placed the tug Titan from Omišalj on standby. This provided an additional maritime response option while firefighters tackled the burning boats.
Standby status does not mean that the tug moved or recovered every damaged boat. The official report describes available support, not a completed salvage operation.
Residue remained confined to a small area
The ministry says surface pollution was confined to the immediate fire area. Visible lubricant residue was surrounded with floating absorbent booms.
This localised the pollution and established a barrier against spreading. It is not a declaration that all environmental work is complete, nor a statement about general bathing-water quality outside the response area.
A response watch remained overnight
An overnight watch was organised involving the Kraljevica fire brigade, the Rijeka Harbourmaster’s Office and a specialist pollution-control company. It continued monitoring the fire site and the contained residue.
Such follow-up matters around burned and sunken boats because hot spots, fuel or lubricant residue and moving debris may still need attention. The report confirms the watch, not the completion of all clean-up and salvage work.
The cause remains under investigation
The Rijeka harbourmaster is continuing the investigation into the cause and the administrative assessment of the damage. Until reliable findings are available, where the fire began and why it spread remain open questions.
The incident notice also cannot determine fault, insurance coverage or liability. Fire spreading between closely moored boats is not proof of a technical defect, negligence or arson.
What makes sense at the scene now
Keep a safe distance from barriers, workboats and deployed booms. Do not enter the secured area to photograph wrecks or collect floating debris.
Anyone who notices a new oil film, strong odour or drifting debris outside the barrier should report the exact location and observation to 112 or the responsible harbour authority. A local containment measure is not a blanket warning for all Kraljevica beaches.
