Plovput is seeking one person for the Pula fairway district. The workplace, however, is not one romantic tower: Pula and lighthouses across the Adriatic are specified, including shift work.

01

Exactly one person is being recruited

Plovput is advertising one lighthouse keeper position in the Pula fairway district. Applications are open from 21 through 31 August 2026.

This is fixed-term, full-time employment involving shifts and work at weekends and on public holidays — not a seasonal job with self-selected hours.

02

Pula is the district, not the only tower

Plovput lists the workplace as Pula and lighthouses along the Adriatic. That does not support an assumption of a permanent posting at Porer, Savudrija or any other single tower.

Applicants must expect changing assignments and maritime logistics. The vacancy does not match the idea of living permanently on one particular island.

03

These qualifications are required

Applicants need secondary education, a certificate of competence to operate a boat and one year of work experience documented in the Croatian pension insurance record.

No university degree is listed. The boating certificate nevertheless shows that safe travel to and from sites in a maritime environment is part of the role.

04

The light is only one part of the job

The main and reserve lights, foghorn and daymark must be checked. Nearby navigational marks within sight are also to be monitored and faults reported.

Manual operation may be necessary if an automatic system fails. Radio, technical logs and communication with the responsible authorities are part of the work as well.

05

Maintenance, weather and rescue are included

The task list includes maintenance, cleaning, monitoring fuel and engine hours, first-aid supplies and meteorological reports.

Participation in search-and-rescue operations is envisaged when ordered by MRCC Rijeka. This is responsible infrastructure work, not simply looking after a view.

06

No home is provided

Plovput expressly states that employee accommodation is not provided. At the same time, it promises full reimbursement of travel costs.

How shifts, transfers and stays are organised in practice must be clarified directly. The job title does not imply free permanent housing by the sea.

07

How to keep the application legitimate

Only the current Plovput page is authoritative. Applicants should check the deadline, documents and contact method there and should not send paperwork to unofficial intermediaries.

The essentials are: one fixed-term position, Pula as the district, possible assignments across the Adriatic, technical shift work and a boat-handling certificate.
