A charter yacht ran aground near Pomena on 13 October. A private passenger vessel provided the first assistance, then the harbour authority took over. The cause of the accident is still being investigated.
Initial assistance came from a private vessel
The skipper reported the grounding on Tuesday at 10:36 to MRCC Rijeka, Croatia’s maritime rescue coordination centre. According to the ministry’s statement of 14 October, the crew of a private Croatian passenger vessel helped free the yacht and secured it with lines to prevent it hitting the rocky coast.
The Korčula branch of the Dubrovnik harbour authority towed the boat and crew to a safe berth on Mljet. There was no water ingress; no marine pollution was observed at the accident site. The initial examination found no major hull damage.
Bura describes the weather, not an established accident cause
The ministry reports strong bura gusts during the operation. The authority is continuing to investigate why the twin-hulled sailing yacht belonging to a Croatian charter company ran aground. This does not establish blame or justify claiming that the boat is already ready for service again.
Rescue and investigation are two distinct processes: people and boat may already be safe while the sequence of events is still being clarified. An initial visual inspection is also not the same as full technical clearance.
The current forecast matters for the next sailing trip
This incident is not a cancellation of a public catamaran service. It shows how private assistance and the responsible rescue and harbour authorities worked together in a specific accident.
For a later departure, the DHMZ marine forecast valid at that time is what matters. A new forecast does not retrospectively describe the weather during the accident, and a successful rescue is not an all-clear for the next sailing trip.
