The underpass on the DC8 is closed from 22:00 on Sunday until 06:00 on Monday. The entire junction is not closed: traffic will use the upper lanes.
Eight hours overnight
Rijeka’s traffic control centre announced the closure from Sunday, 30 August at 22:00 until Monday, 31 August at 06:00. The reason is routine maintenance.
The window has deliberately been placed overnight. Anyone travelling very early to the ferry, bus station or from the city centre may still be affected.
Not all of Žabica is closed
The underpass on state road DC8 will close. According to Rijeka Plus, traffic will be directed along the upper lanes.
The notice therefore does not mean that the entire junction is sealed off. Passage remains possible at street level, although the lane layout changes.
Why traffic may still slow down
The upper level has to absorb extra traffic that night. Traffic lights, turning movements and access routes to the centre may therefore be busier than usual.
The city gives no guaranteed delay. Anyone who must catch a fixed connection should include a modest margin.
The bus station and port are not closed
Closure of the underpass does not mean closure of Žabica bus station or the port. Travellers should check their specific access route rather than avoiding the whole area.
For a taxi or pick-up, it helps to agree the meeting point in advance because drivers may not be able to stop spontaneously everywhere under the changed lane arrangement.
Navigation does not override the signs
A navigation app may still show the road as continuous or try to direct drivers into the underpass. Barriers, traffic lights and instructions on site take priority.
Anyone coming from the city centre should move into the signposted upper route early and must not turn around at the closure.
What applies on Monday morning
Reopening is planned for 06:00. Maintenance work can occasionally run late; the notice does not promise an opening accurate to the second.
For journeys right around six o’clock, a live check with Rijeka Plus or the city remains useful.
The practical essentials
Between 22:00 and 06:00, the underpass cannot be used, but the upper level can. This is maintenance, not a crash or a construction project lasting several days.
With a little extra time, the city centre remains accessible. The key correction is that Žabica is restricted that night, not completely closed.
