Skradin–Šibenik will close on Wednesday night into Thursday, followed by Šibenik–Danilo. The first two stages are over; installing the gantries does not mean the new tolling system has launched.
The two remaining closures
On the night of 2/3 September, the A1 between Skradin and Šibenik will be closed in both directions from 22:00 to 05:00. The signposted diversion runs via DC56 and DC33.
On the following night, 3/4 September, the Šibenik–Danilo section, including Podi, will also close from 22:00 to 05:00. HAK lists D33–D8–D58–D531 as the diversion route.
The first stages are over
Benkovac–Vodice and Vodice–Skradin were scheduled for the night of 1/2 September. Those windows have passed and are therefore no longer listed as upcoming closures in the current service information.
Anyone seeing older notices or screenshots should check the date and time. The two sections farther south and HAK's latest update are now what matter.
Short additional stops are also possible
During the first night, traffic at the Vodice toll station may be stopped several times for no more than 15 minutes. The same applies at the Skradin and Šibenik toll stations on the night of 2/3 September.
These are not additional closures lasting several hours, but they may also affect travellers outside the completely closed section.
Why the gantries are being installed
Hrvatske autoceste says the purpose is to lift and install gantries for the new tolling system. The crossbeams will later carry technology for vehicle detection and billing.
Installation does not mean that regular operation has begun. Equipment, testing, software, registration and the nationwide transition are separate steps.
The current tolling process does not change yet
Outside the worksites, the existing payment procedures continue to apply. Travellers do not need to register for Crolibertas spontaneously because a new gantry has appeared.
The work is a visible preparatory step, but it is neither a new vignette nor the removal of every toll barrier this week.
How to plan a night journey
Anyone reaching the area during a closure window should allow time for the diversion on ordinary roads. Motorhomes and vehicles towing trailers should not wait until the closed interchange to enter the alternative route into navigation.
Check HAK and HAC again before departure. Weather or the construction sequence can shift the dates; a screenshot from the previous day is not live information.
The position in plain terms
Four full closures, their time windows, diversions and short stops are confirmed. The connection to gantries for the future system is confirmed as well.
Its immediate launch is not confirmed. Keeping that distinction in mind allows travellers to plan correctly without turning a worksite into a premature system change.
