Ulica kralja Zvonimira is closed from 18:00 on 7 September until 02:00 on 9 September. Three temporary traffic stops will be added on the feast day, while pilgrims walk from Sinj to Solin overnight.
A full closure and three stops are not the same thing
Two different traffic measures apply in Solin for the Mala Gospa celebrations. Ulica kralja Zvonimira will be closed continuously to all traffic. The full closure begins at 18:00 on Monday 7 September and is due to last until 02:00 on Wednesday 9 September.
Police have also announced temporary traffic stops at three locations on Tuesday 8 September. No continuous two-day closure is reported there. When and for how long traffic is held will depend on events on the ground and the instructions of officers.
Ulica kralja Zvonimira remains the main bottleneck
The continuous closure affects Ulica kralja Zvonimira in Solin. The police notice does not name any exemption for residents, hotels or deliveries on this road. Anyone who normally drives through should therefore avoid the route from Monday evening rather than relying on access being granted.
The notice does not specify an official diversion. Navigation apps may respond to the closure but might not do so immediately. Temporary signs and instructions from police and marshals on site take precedence over the route shown on a screen.
Traffic may stop at three locations on Tuesday
Temporary stops are announced on 8 September in Ulica Grada Vukovara between Hektorovićeva ulica and Ulica Petra Krešimira IV, by the roundabout. The junction of Ulica Grada Vukovara and Most dr. Franje Tuđmana, and the junction of Ulica Stjepana Radića and Most dr. Franje Tuđmana, are also included.
These three locations are control points, not closures with minute-by-minute windows. A vehicle may pass at one moment and have to wait shortly afterwards. Anyone with an appointment in Solin or travelling between Split, Klis and the surrounding area should therefore allow a substantial buffer instead of planning a tight arrival.
Police advise against travelling by private car
Police recommend that visitors avoid taking a private car to the celebration where possible and use public transport instead. This reduces traffic around the sanctuary but does not answer every onward-travel question: the notice does not promise special timetables, extra services or guaranteed parking.
Anyone relying on bus or train should check the operator’s latest information before departure. Those who have to come by car should plan a legal parking place outside the event area and walk the remaining distance—without blocking entrances, emergency routes or pavements.
The night pilgrims leave Sinj at 20:15
A group of pilgrims will leave the Church of Our Lady of Sinj at 20:15 on Monday 7 September. The reported route initially follows the D1 state road as far as Križice. The pilgrims then leave the state road and continue through Dugopolje to the Church of Our Lady of the Island in Solin.
Drivers must expect people at the roadside along the affected sections that night, not only immediately before Solin. Police call for slow, particularly careful driving and compliance with their instructions. Overtaking where visibility is limited or passing the group too closely is incompatible with these conditions.
Visibility is decisive on the dark route
Pilgrims should use the announced route, walk on the pavement wherever possible, and otherwise keep to the left edge of the road facing oncoming traffic. Where the road layout makes the right-hand side safer, police advise using that side. Groups should walk in single file rather than abreast.
Lights, reflective vests and other highly visible clothing help drivers notice the group earlier. A phone light alone is not a substitute for continuous visibility. Anyone who becomes exhausted or uncertain should not step into the carriageway but stop in a safe place and arrange assistance.
The order ends at 02:00—unless new instructions follow
The published period ends at 02:00 on 9 September. That is the scheduled end of the special traffic arrangements, not a guarantee that every road will clear immediately. Dismantling, residual traffic or a new police order may change conditions at short notice.
For practical planning, the priorities are clear: avoid driving into Solin if possible; check live traffic and public transport before setting out; follow signs and officers on site; and expect pedestrians on the route from Sinj via the D1 to Križice and onwards through Dugopolje. That prevents a large celebration from becoming an unnecessary traffic conflict.
