Hrvatski dom has opened a space for music, theatre and learning in the former Ljetno kino. “Čarobni svijet Tete Operete” launched the programme. The new venue hosts events; it is not a museum open freely every day.
The former cinema becomes a music venue
Split has a new space for music and the performing arts. On 19 October, the Multimedijska dvorana Jakova Gotovca opened in the former Ljetno kino on Trg hrvatske bratske zajednice. The tourism organisation had announced the launch; HRT subsequently reported that the opening had taken place.
The first performance was the musical learning show “Čarobni svijet Tete Operete”. The hall’s direction was therefore evident from its first evening: children and young people should not merely listen quietly, but find a way into opera, voices and musical play.
A smaller space can offer a different encounter
Citing the management of Hrvatski dom, HRT reports 155 seats and conversion costs of more than €700,000. Concerts, musical theatre, workshops and educational activities are planned. The precise format comes from each programme, not from the word “multimedia” alone.
For families, a manageable auditorium can offer a different introduction from a large-scale evening with a lengthy performance. Age guidance, duration and language nevertheless remain decisive. A music education format is not automatically suitable for every child at every age, nor necessarily equally accessible without Croatian language skills.
The opening is over – the programme continues
The performance on 19 October should no longer appear as an upcoming event in current travel plans. Among further projects, HRT’s report names “Pinocchio” by Bruno Bjelinski and “Ivo i Jakov – od splitskog geta do svjetskih pozornica”. These are programme previews, not places we have confirmed as available for a particular date.
The official event page links to the venue’s own portal, gotovac.hdsplit.hr. Check the specific date there before visiting. Group activities may also have different access arrangements from public ticket sales. Cooperation with schools does not mean every workshop can be booked spontaneously at any time.
What travellers can take from it
Families visiting Split have an additional cultural venue beyond the usual sightseeing circuit. It makes sense to find a suitable event first, then plan the journey. A building with a new name is not yet a daily visitor attraction with fixed museum hours.
Even without an immediate visit, the opening says something about the city: culture is offered not only to people passing through, but to an audience growing up here. Its regular programme will show how well the hall fulfils that ambition. Our images are symbolic illustrations of music education, not photographs of the new hall or its opening performance.
