Zadar Airport handled 381,257 passengers in August, 4.61 per cent more than a year earlier. The January-to-August total is also growing, but one strong summer month does not yet mean a dense winter schedule.
381,257 passengers in one month
Zadar Airport counted more passengers in August 2026 than in any previous single month. Its official traffic statistics record 381,257 travellers. August 2025 had 364,473, an increase of 4.61 per cent.
The record describes the airport’s total monthly traffic. It does not mean that every day, route or airline grew. For travellers, the figure mainly shows how strongly Zadar’s traffic is now concentrated in high summer.
Summer traffic rises month by month
The monthly series clearly shows the typical seasonal curve: the airport recorded 310,148 passengers in June, 367,934 in July and 381,257 in August. The record therefore came at the top of an already very strong summer season.
That sequence matters economically to the region because a full airport places simultaneous demands on transport, accommodation, hospitality and services. The passenger count alone cannot show how much additional local value it creates.
The eight-month total is growing too
From January through August 2026, the airport handled 1,351,760 passengers. The same period in 2025 recorded 1,272,346. After eight months, the current year is therefore 6.21 per cent above the previous one.
The percentages answer two different questions: 4.61 per cent measures August alone, while 6.21 per cent covers the whole period since January. Both show growth, but the larger eight-month figure must not be reported as the August increase.
Passenger numbers are growing faster than aircraft movements
The airport statistics list 1,629 aircraft movements in August, compared with 1,606 in the same month last year. The 1.43 per cent increase is notably smaller than the 4.61 per cent rise in passengers.
This indicates that the average number of passengers per recorded movement increased. The table does not explain whether larger aircraft, higher load factors or a different traffic mix caused it. Naming a specific cause without further operating data would be speculation.
The terminal was expanded before the season
HRT reports, citing airport director Josip Klišmanić, that the passenger terminal extension was completed at the beginning of the season. This fits the infrastructure angle of the record: growing peaks are felt not only on the runway but particularly in check-in, security, baggage handling and waiting areas.
The published passenger figures do not show how much the extension actually reduced particular bottlenecks. Capacity, waiting-time and operating data would be needed for that. The monthly record is therefore a stress test, not a quality rating for every travel day.
About 1.4 million by 5 September is an interim figure
Klišmanić told HRT on 6 September that the airport had already handled about 1.4 million passengers by the previous day. He also said that the millionth passenger had been reached five days earlier than in 2025.
These are the director’s current interim figures. The precise published monthly series, by contrast, ends on 31 August at 1,351,760 passengers. The two figures are compatible, but their different cut-off dates and precision mean they should not be merged into a single official series.
A record August does not guarantee a winter flight
According to HRT, the winter timetable begins on 25 October. Which route will actually operate on which day remains a separate question: the airport itself notes that its timetable is for information and airlines may make changes.
Anyone planning to use Zadar in autumn or winter should first check the desired route and exact date in the current airport timetable, then confirm availability directly with the airline. An August record describes summer demand and capacity, not an equally dense year-round network.
