Bisko–Split remains closed towards Zagreb. Drivers continuing from Zagreb to Dubrovnik are routed through the toll plaza and a roundabout at the Split interchange. This differs from the arrangements for traffic whose destination is Split.

01

Towards Zagreb: leave the motorway at Bisko

The current HAK/HAC report confirms that the A1 between Bisko and Split is closed towards Zagreb until 18 December 2026. The published diversion runs from Bisko via D220, ŽC6260 and D1 to the Split interchange. Drivers continuing north can rejoin the motorway there.

These arrangements do not simply apply in reverse to every southbound journey. Check both your direction and your actual destination: Split, an onward journey to Dubrovnik and a journey from Dalmatia to Zagreb each require different guidance. A blanket statement that the “A1 near Split is closed” omits these crucial distinctions.

02

Continuing to Dubrovnik: via the toll plaza and roundabout

Drivers continuing from Zagreb towards Dubrovnik leave the motorway at the Split interchange, pass through the Dugopolje toll plaza and turn around at the D1–ŽC6145 roundabout. They then pass through the toll plaza again to rejoin the A1 towards Dubrovnik. This prescribed loop is the published diversion route.

It expressly does not permit turning around on a motorway ramp. Follow the temporary signs to the designated roundabout. The earlier continuous overnight closure on 14–15 October has now passed and is not being announced as the next closure night.

Access remains possible for traffic heading to Split

HAC continues to describe access via the toll plaza for traffic arriving from Zagreb with Split as its destination. This is not the same as an unchanged through route to Dubrovnik. Lanes may be used differently within the roadworks; check the local arrangements afresh even on a familiar route.

For a ferry connection, allow for city traffic to the port as well as the motorway journey. Without current conditions, it would be misleading to promise a fixed number of extra minutes. Also check the specific ferry sailing with the operator: a suitable road route does not confirm a departure.

04

The closure end date and project completion are not the same

The live report currently gives 18 December as the end date for this closure. HAC’s project announcement of 12 October, however, describes work continuing into December, with completion expected by 23 December. The two dates do not necessarily refer to the same reopening.

We therefore neither promise a reopening at a precise time nor independently extend this particular closure to the later project date. For a journey in December, check the HAK/HAC information current at that time. This article explains the confirmed traffic arrangements as of 25 October, not guaranteed conditions on a later travel day.
