Initially, only the 08 sailing from Ancona was confirmed cancelled. At 12:21, HAK lists the entire Zadar–Ancona route as suspended because of the weather – so travellers departing from Zadar now need a fresh live-status check too.
Initially, only the morning sailing from Ancona was confirmed cancelled
Jadrolinija reports that the Jelena will not operate international route 51BB on Friday, 21 August 2026, because of the weather. The 08:00 sailing is affected. The operator’s notice names the route as Zadar (Gaženica)–Ancona in its headline but does not expressly state the port in which the sailing begins.
The official seasonal timetable resolves the direction: during the timetable period from 3 July to 30 August, the Jelena is scheduled to depart Ancona at 08:00 and arrive in Zadar at 12:00. The reverse journey leaves Zadar at 14:00 and reaches Ancona at 18:00. It would therefore be wrong to describe the confirmed cancellation as an 08 departure from Zadar.
Updated timetable disruption
Seven catamaran and ferry routes suspended by weather at 12:21 on 21 August 2026, including Zadar–Ancona
The newer HAK update supersedes the first notice
At 12:21 on 21 August, HAK no longer lists only an individual sailing but the entire Zadar (Gaženica)–Ancona route as suspended because of adverse weather conditions. The earlier statement that no separate status was available for the scheduled 14 sailing from Zadar is therefore outdated as current travel information.
‘Suspended’ remains a live status and is not an automatic cancellation of every later sailing or subsequent day. Travellers with a booking from Zadar should now explicitly check their specific departure with the operator and not rely solely on the older individual notice about the morning sailing.
Booked passengers should clarify two things now
First, retain the booking email, text message or app notification and check whether Jadrolinija has already offered a specific alternative. Then state in writing whether you want a refund or rerouting at the earliest opportunity. In the event of cancellation, this choice remains in principle: reimbursement of the fare within seven days or rerouting to the final destination under comparable conditions at no extra cost.
Keep tickets, onward bookings and receipts for necessary additional expenses. Anyone who books an expensive flight, hotel or long overland journey too quickly, without waiting for the operator’s offer, does not thereby obtain an automatic promise of reimbursement. For booking enquiries, Jadrolinija lists booking@jadrolinija.hr and the call centre on 072 30 33 37, or +385 72 30 33 37 from abroad.
Bad weather does not automatically mean no rights
EU passenger rights distinguish the basic choice from additional entitlements. Even when weather conditions endanger the safe operation of the vessel, the choice between reimbursement and rerouting at the earliest opportunity does not disappear as a blanket rule. Information and clear handling of the booking remain necessary.
Accommodation and flat-rate compensation for delayed arrival are different. Dangerous weather can exclude the entitlement to an overnight stay and the additional compensation of 25 or 50 per cent. That is precisely why Golden Beach promises neither hotel costs nor a flat-rate payment here. Refreshments are assessed only in reasonable proportion to the waiting time and where they are available or can reasonably be supplied.
Do not confuse this with the Dalmacija cancellation
Jelena is a fast passenger catamaran and does not carry cars. Its current cancellation is weather-related; at 12:21 on 21 August, HAK lists the entire route as suspended. This is a different case from Dalmacija’s technical problem, which caused several international vehicle-ferry routes to be suspended until 9 September.
Anyone looking for an alternative must therefore compare not only the time and port but also the mode of transport. A passenger catamaran cannot replace a booked vehicle space on a car ferry. Conversely, the Dalmacija cancellation says nothing about the Jelena’s entire operation. This report is a dated interim status and will be reassessed if the operator issues new information.
